OBELISK
Lokacija: Spomeniku Prvom samitu Pokreta nesvrstanih, kod Brankovog mosta
Period: 31.07 –

OBELISK
Location: Monument to The First Non-Aligned Movement Summit, next to Branko’s Bridge
Period: 31.07 –

Citizens’ perception of the Monument to The First Non-Aligned Movement Summit, next to Branko’s Bridge, that was erected in 1961, suppressed its historical, commemorative meaning into second plan. Now that mount with an obelisk (the monument) in the center became a place for incidental meetings of graffiti artists, the homeless, dog owners and passers-by. Gilewicz has joined to that uncontrolled movement within the place, reacting on what he had found.

This painting project, like his other projects, blends into surrounding – he paints using original color over the existing graffiti on the monument , and then he fills the empty spaces on the plinth, where the marble plates used to be. With his illegal act, Gilewicz invests into place, emphasizing its great potential.

By leaving the place, Gilewicz is letting go the paintings to their surrounding, without trying to control or obstruct their inevitable merge with environment and their final disappearance.
